Joel received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in l989 from the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, CA, where he was on the Provost Honor List in the spring and fall quarters of l987. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law, in Fullerton, CA, in l995, and was a member of Delta theta Phi and the Criminal Law Association. In l994 he was a Certified Law Clerk for Orange county Districts Attorney’s Office, North Court in Fullerton.

Joel is admitted to the California State Courts, United States District Court (Central, Northern, Southern), Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals; Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.

From l999 to 2001, Joel was an Associate Attorney at the law firm of Shupe, Reagan & Wyne in Santa Ana, CA. Here he practiced general liability defense, premises liability, construction defect and bad faith files for insurance defense firm. He successfully defended client-food growers in a complex, sixty-party food poisoning matter on motions for summary judgments following tentative ruling.

He was an Associate Attorney at the Law Offices of Linda Hart Chandler in Corona del Mar, CA where he drafted law and motion, pleadings and discovery for employment/business law practice. He interviewed clients, organized and developed FEHA and discrimination cases, resolved age, race, pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment cases for both employees and employers. Joel successfully argued fourteen out of fifteen pre-trial motions for sheriff-client in a sexual harassment case.

Joel is a veteran litigation attorney with sixteen years’ experience. For ten years, he was a Senior Associate with the Law Offices of Robert K. Scott of Irvine, CA, where he collected tens of millions of dollars in insurance benefits for his clients. He litigated bad faith insurance in the areas of life, health, disability, long term care, and property and casualty policies.

One such client became the subject of an ESPN show about disabled NFL players and the interest and hearings that Congress held on the league’s history of disability denials. In that capacity, Joel interfaced with the producers of the show and prepared the clients for television interviews. This was accomplished after successfully resolving the matter before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the amount of seven figures.

Before and after this ten year stretch, Joel continued to represent employers, employee, medical patients, homeowners associations, and businesses in all phases of litigation in both state and federal courts.
